Overview

The BWN-PLC-IM-1X2-SC-APC is a 1×2 PLC splitter box: a planar lightwave circuit (PLC) splitter that divides one input fiber into two even output fibers, packaged in a 100×80×10 mm ABS box with SC/APC connector pigtails. It branches optical power at distribution points in PON, FTTH, CATV, and CCTV networks.

Buy this configuration when you need a protected, standalone 1×2 module for a splice tray, fiber distribution box, or wall-mount cabinet, on a link that runs APC polish — the default in PON and FTTH outside plant. For UPC plants see the SC/UPC sibling; for sealed closures use a steel-tube mini; for ODF plug-in use the cassette type.

Key Features

  • 3.8/4.0 dB max insertion loss (P/S grade) — an even two-way split that adds about 4 dB to the link budget.
  • SC/APC connectors, 55 dB return loss — the polish and reflectance level PON/FTTH and CATV links are designed around.
  • 100×80×10 mm ABS box — a self-protected module for splice trays, distribution boxes, and wall-mount cabinets.
  • 1260–1650 nm window — one SKU covers the 1310/1490/1550 nm wavelengths used by GPON, XGS-PON, and CATV overlays.
  • -40 ~ +85 °C operating and storage, 0.4 dB temperature stability — sized for unconditioned cabinets and enclosures.
  • 0.9 / 2.0 / 3.0 mm pigtails, 1 m standard, customizable — fits fusion-splice or connectorized installation.

Connectors, Fiber Types & Compatibility

This model ships with SC/APC pigtails as standard; LC and ST connectors in APC or UPC polish are available on request. The fiber is G657A bend-insensitive singlemode; customer-specified fiber is accepted. The box connects through SC adapter plates in distribution boxes, ODFs, and wall-mount enclosures.

APC polish grinds the ferrule end face at 8 degrees, directing reflected light into the cladding instead of back toward the source. PON OLT optics and analog CATV are reflection-sensitive, so FTTH plant standardizes on APC. Never mate APC to UPC: it degrades return loss and can damage end faces.

Applications

  • PON/FTTH distribution points — an even 1×2 branch where one feeder splits into two legs, such as two MDU risers or two distribution boxes. The 3.8/4.0 dB branch keeps most of the PON budget intact, and SC/APC matches ODN practice.
  • CATV broadcast distribution — analog 1550 nm video is sensitive to back-reflection; the 55 dB return loss and APC polish suit these links.
  • CCTV and security networks — one fiber from a control room feeds two camera legs at an aggregation cabinet; the ABS box mounts alongside the termination field.
  • FTTH wall-box installations — the 0.9 mm version fusion-splices to riser and drop cables inside compact distribution boxes. See our FTTx supporting products for matching enclosures.

How to Choose the Right 1×2 Splitter Configuration

Package: ABS box vs steel tube vs cassette

Match the package to the mounting point. The ABS box (this page) is a self-protected standalone module for splice trays, distribution boxes, and wall-mount cabinets — pick it when the splitter sits loose inside an enclosure. The steel-tube mini relies on the closure around it and suits dense splice closures; the cassette plugs into ODFs and distribution frames. See the ABS box splitter module category for all boxed configurations.

Polish: SC/APC vs SC/UPC

Default to APC on PON, FTTH, and CATV links for reflectance control. Choose UPC only where the plant is UPC end to end — see sibling model BWN-PLC-IM-1X2-SC-UPC.

Grade: P vs S insertion loss

The datasheet lists two grades: 3.8 dB max (P) and 4.0 dB max (S). On short links the 0.2 dB rarely changes the design; on long-reach or cascaded splits, specify P. State the grade in your RFQ.

Pigtail diameter and length

All three diameters carry the same G657A fiber — choose by handling. 0.9 mm suits fusion splicing inside trays; 2.0/3.0 mm are jacketed leads for patching and frequent handling. Standard length is 1 m; order a length that reaches the splice point without slack.

Loss budget

A perfect even 1×2 split costs 3.01 dB; the 3.8/4.0 dB rating includes split loss plus excess loss. Budget each output leg at about 4 dB plus connectors and splices, and cross-check other ratios on the splitter loss chart (1×2 to 1×64).

FAQ

1×2 PLC Splitter SC/APC in ABS Box (BWN-PLC-IM-1X2-SC-APC) FAQ

What does “3.8/4.0 dB (P/S grade)” mean on this 1×2 PLC splitter?

The two datasheet grades: 3.8 dB max for P grade, 4.0 dB max for S grade, across the full 1260–1650 nm window. A perfect even two-way split already costs 3.01 dB, so excess loss stays under 1 dB. State the grade you need in the RFQ.

Is a 1×2 PLC splitter the same as a 50/50 splitter?

Yes. A 1×2 PLC splitter is an even-split device: input power divides equally between the two outputs across the 1260–1650 nm window. Each output carries roughly half the input power minus module loss — budget about 4 dB per leg plus connectors and splices. Unequal ratios such as 70/30 belong to tap couplers.

Should I choose the ABS box, a steel tube mini, or a cassette 1×2 splitter?

Match the package to the mounting point. The 100×80×10 mm ABS box is a self-protected module for splice trays, distribution boxes, and wall-mount cabinets. The 60×7×4 mm steel-tube mini relies on the closure around it and suits dense splice closures. The cassette plugs into ODFs and distribution frames.

Why is SC/APC the default connector for PON and FTTH splitters?

APC polish grinds the ferrule end face at 8 degrees, so reflected light exits into the cladding instead of back toward the source. PON OLT optics and analog CATV are reflection-sensitive, so FTTH outside plant standardizes on APC. This module rates 55 dB return loss. Never mate APC directly to UPC.

Which pigtail diameter should I order — 0.9 mm, 2.0 mm, or 3.0 mm?

Choose by handling, not optics — all three carry the same G657A fiber. 0.9 mm is for fusion splicing inside trays; 2.0/3.0 mm are jacketed leads for patching fields and frequent handling. Standard length is 1 m; custom lengths should reach the splice point without slack coils.

Can this splitter be installed outdoors?

The module is rated -40 ~ +85 °C operating and storage, so temperature is not the constraint. The ABS box protects the PLC device but is not a sealed outdoor closure: install it inside a splice tray, distribution box, or wall-mount cabinet that provides the environmental seal.
