Overview
The BWN-PLC-MMST is a 1×2 mini PLC splitter with FC/APC connectors in a 60×7×4mm steel tube. It divides one singlemode input into two even outputs across the full 1260–1650nm window, with 3.8/4.0dB insertion loss (P/S grade), 55dB return loss, and 0.9mm G657A pigtails.
This configuration suits buyers who need a connectorized 1×2 split that drops straight into a splice closure, distribution box, or CATV node housing. The steel tube protects the chip and pigtails during handling and tray routing — unlike bare-fiber splitters with exposed 250µm fibers. FC/APC fits plant where the threaded FC interface is already standard — legacy CATV, older ODFs, vibration-prone housings — because the screw-lock coupling stays seated. For other split counts in the same mini format, see the blockless mini PLC splitter category.
Key Features
- 1×2 even split, 3.8/4.0dB insertion loss (P/S grade): the lowest-loss split in the PLC family, preserving budget on long drops.
- 55dB return loss with APC polish: the 8° angled endface keeps reflections low for RF video and high-sensitivity PON receivers.
- FC screw-lock connectors: the threaded coupling nut stays seated under vibration in nodes, cabinets, and legacy ODFs.
- 60×7×4mm steel tube mini module: fits splice trays in closures and connection boxes; metal shell protects the PLC chip.
- 0.9mm G657A pigtails, 1m standard: bend-insensitive tails route around tray corners and fusion-splice to distribution fibers.
- 1260–1650nm window, 0.3dB WDL; -40~85℃ with 0.4dB temperature stability: Telcordia GR-1209-CORE / GR-1221-CORE compliance per BWNFiber product documentation.

Connectors, Fiber Types & Compatibility
FC/APC interface. FC connectors use a 2.5mm ceramic ferrule in a threaded coupling nut. Mating is slower than push-pull SC or LC, but the nut does not back off under vibration — why FC persists in CATV headends, optical nodes, test equipment, and older ODFs. The APC polish (8° endface) supports the 55dB return loss rating; never mate APC into UPC adapters, because the flat and angled endfaces cannot seat.
Fiber and pigtails. Standard fiber is G657A bend-insensitive singlemode; other types on request. The 0.9mm pigtails bend around tray corners without the stiffness of 2.0/3.0mm leads and fusion-splice to 250µm distribution fibers. Standard length is 1m per side; custom available.
Where it connects. The module sits inline between a distribution fiber and two output legs, inside closures, connection boxes, nodes, and small frames. For two-input, eight-output needs in the same format, see the 2×8 steel tube PLC splitter with SC/APC connectors.
Applications
- FTTH drop-level splitting: a 1×2 is the smallest PON split — two subscribers or two drop directions from one distribution fiber, without wasting ports or budget on a larger cassette. See FTTx supporting products for the closures this module installs in.
- CATV optical nodes and RF overlay: FC remains standard on many node platforms; APC polish and 55dB return loss keep reflections away from video signals.
- 1+1 protection and monitoring feeds: a 1×2 can feed working and standby paths, or branch a copy toward monitoring equipment — at the cost of the 3.8/4.0dB split loss, which must be in the budget.
- Vibration-prone outdoor plant: pedestals, pole-mounted closures, and cabinets near traffic benefit from the threaded FC coupling.
How to Choose the Right 1×2 Splitter Configuration
1. Confirm the split count. Choose 1×2 when you need exactly two outputs — each added stage costs budget: 1×4 is 7.1/7.3dB, 1×8 is 10.2/10.5dB, against 3.8/4.0dB here. Check the total against the splitter loss chart (1×2 to 1×64) first.
2. Pick the package for the mounting point. A steel-tube mini module goes inside closures and connection boxes, fusion-spliced in. ABS boxes suit wall-mount points; cassette and LGX types suit panels and racks — compare formats in the PLC splitter category.
3. Match the connector to the plant. FC/APC for threaded-FC and vibration-prone housings; SC variants for SC panels. Keep one polish per link — APC mates with APC only.
4. Check the loss grade. The table lists 3.8dB and 4.0dB grades; on a tight GPON budget that 0.2dB can decide a marginal drop. State the grade when ordering.
5. Specify the pigtails. 0.9mm is standard for closure trays; confirm lead length (1m standard, custom available) so tails reach the splice organizer without excess slack.
