Cassette PLC Splitter
BWN 1×2 PLC Splitter Cassette Type SC/UPC 2.0mm for PON Applications
This 1×2 PLC splitter cassette (model BWN-PLC-CT-1×2-SC-UPC) splits one fiber input into two equal outputs with SC/UPC connectors on 2.0mm pigtails. The plug-in module installs into ODF and fiber distribution box slots in PON networks. Insertion loss 3.8/4.0 dB, return loss 55 dB.
The BWN-PLC-CT-1×2-SC-UPC is a 1×2 PLC splitter cassette that divides one optical input into two equal outputs inside a plug-in module with SC/UPC connectors on 2.0mm pigtailed leads. It installs into a cassette slot in an optical distribution frame (ODF) or fiber distribution box (FDB): patching happens at the faceplate, not at a splice point.
Buy this configuration when a PON distribution point needs a two-way split: ISP teams feeding two downstream paths from one feeder, FTTH contractors building backup routes, and distributors stocking the smallest PLC split count for ODF/FDB retrofits. The 1×2 carries the lowest loss in the PLC family at 3.8/4.0 dB (P/S), 55 dB return loss, and a 100×80×10 mm module for standard cassette slots — a splice-free way to add a two-way split where the plant runs SC/UPC.
Key Features
1×2 planar lightwave circuit (PLC) chip — even two-way split with 0.4 dB uniformity, so both output legs carry the same optical budget.
Insertion loss 3.8/4.0 dB (P/S) — the lowest split loss of the PLC 1×N family, preserving OLT-to-ONU budget headroom.
Return loss 55 dB, directivity 55 dB — limits reflected power and back-propagation at the SC/UPC interface.
Plug-in cassette module, 100×80×10 mm — drops into cassette slots in ODF frames and fiber distribution boxes; no splicing required at the cassette.
SC/UPC connectors on 2.0mm jacketed pigtails — sturdier in patch fields than 0.9mm loose tube; G657A bend-insensitive fiber, 1m standard length.
-40~+85°C operating range, 0.4 dB temperature stability — rated for outdoor cabinets and unconditioned enclosures.
Telcordia GR-1209-CORE and GR-1221-CORE compliance — stated per BWNFiber product documentation.

Connectors, Fiber Types & Compatibility
This configuration is supplied with SC/UPC connectors on 2.0mm pigtails. Orderable variants: SC/LC/ST connectors, UPC or APC polish, 0.9/3.0mm fiber diameters, and customized lengths — state the variant in your inquiry.
UPC or APC — match the plant, not the datasheet. Choose SC/UPC where the network already runs UPC, common in legacy telecom plants, CATV headends, and enterprise LANs. Reflectance-sensitive PON/FTTH builds usually standardize on SC/APC end to end — return loss affects OLT laser stability and video overlay quality. Never mate UPC to APC: the end faces cannot align, return loss degrades, and both ferrules can be damaged. This model’s UPC interface is specified at 55 dB return loss.
Enclosure compatibility. The cassette measures 100×80×10 mm for standard PLC cassette slots in ODF frames and fiber distribution boxes. Confirm your enclosure’s slot dimensions and adapter layout before ordering.
Applications
PON distribution at the FDB/ODF — feeds two downstream paths from one feeder fiber, such as two building risers or cascaded distribution points in FTTH.
Backup-path splits — the smallest PLC split count duplicates a critical feed onto a secondary route without the 7+ dB penalty of higher split counts.
GPON, XGS-PON and RF-video plants — the 1260nm-1650nm window covers 1310/1490nm and 1270/1577nm PON wavelengths plus 1550nm video overlay.
CATV/CCTV distribution on UPC plants — two-way splitting for camera aggregation or headend distribution where the installed standard is UPC.
Test and monitoring access — even two-way division for lab signal distribution; for unequal monitor/through ratios, see our FBT coupler configurations.
How to Choose: Configuration Guide
1. Split count. A 1×2 split adds 3.8/4.0 dB, the lowest of any PLC configuration; each doubling of outputs adds roughly 3 dB. Need only two paths? Do not buy a 1×4 and leave ports dark. Full figures: splitter loss chart (1×2 to 1×64).
2. Package. Cassette when the ODF/FDB has a free slot and you want plug-in, splice-free installation; ABS box when splicing into trays; steel-tube mini for closures; LGX for rack panels. See the cassette PLC splitter category and the full PLC splitter range.
3. Connector polish. Match the installed plant: UPC for legacy/CATV/enterprise, APC for reflectance-sensitive PON/FTTH.
4. Pigtail diameter and length. 2.0mm jacketed leads suit patch-field handling; 0.9mm routes more easily in dense splice trays. Standard length 1m; customized lengths on request.
5. Budget check. Design against the 4.0 dB worst-case insertion loss, add connector-pair and splice losses to the furthest ONU, and confirm the total stays inside your PON class budget.

BWN 1×2 PLC Splitter Cassette Type SC/UPC 2.0mm for PON Applications FAQ
What is a 1×2 PLC splitter cassette used for in PON networks?
The smallest split in the PLC family: one input divided into two equal outputs in a plug-in cassette module. In PON plants it sits in an ODF or fiber distribution box slot, feeding two downstream paths from one feeder or providing a backup path.
What is the insertion loss of this 1×2 cassette splitter?
Specified at 3.8/4.0 dB (P/S) for the 1×2 configuration, with 0.4 dB uniformity between the two output ports. Design the link budget against the 4.0 dB figure, then add connector and splice losses. The full 1×2-to-1×64 table is on our splitter loss chart page.
Will this cassette fit the slot in my ODF or fiber distribution box?
The module measures 100×80×10 mm and fits standard PLC cassette slots in optical distribution frames and fiber distribution boxes. Confirm your enclosure’s slot dimensions and adapter cut-out against this footprint before ordering.
Should I order SC/UPC or SC/APC for my network?
Match the polish already in your plant. SC/UPC, specified at 55 dB return loss on this model, is common in legacy, CATV and enterprise plants; reflectance-sensitive PON/FTTH builds usually standardize on SC/APC end to end. Never mate UPC to APC — return loss degrades and both ferrules can be damaged.
How is this cassette different from the ABS-box and steel-tube 1×2 PLC splitters?
Same 1×2 PLC device class, different installation. This cassette plugs into an ODF/FDB slot with no splicing at the module; the ABS-box BWN-PLC-IM-1X2-SC-APC splices into trays; the steel-tube mini module fits closures and tight spaces. Pick the package for your enclosure, then the polish.
Does the 2.0mm pigtail need special handling during installation?
2.0mm jacketed leads handle better in patch fields than 0.9mm loose tube, but still need bend-radius discipline: route them in the cassette’s fiber guides, avoid staples and sharp tray edges, and coil spare length loosely. The specified G657A bend-insensitive fiber reduces risk in dense routing.
Is this splitter compliant with Telcordia standards?
BWNFiber product documentation states compliance with Telcordia GR-1209-CORE and GR-1221-CORE, the reliability framework for passive optical branching devices. Operating temperature is -40~+85°C.
