Custom MPO/MTP Patch Cords for MPO-to-MPO Data Center Links
Configure short, single-jacket MPO-to-MPO or MTP-to-MTP patch cords by connector system, active fibers, OS2/OM3/OM4/OM5 fiber, polish, gender, polarity, loss grade, jacket and length. Send the BOM or link map for a build-sheet review.

MPO/MTP Patch Cord Manufacturing Controls
Patch-cord performance depends on more than cable color or fiber count. BWNFiber uses the approved build sheet to keep connector hardware, active-fiber map, polarity, gender, optical grade and labels aligned before production.
BOM and link-map review
Interface count, active fibers, fiber family, polish, gender and polarity are checked against the panel, cassette or optical-module connection.
Factory termination and inspection
Assemblies are terminated and inspected before shipment, so field polish work is not required inside the cabinet.
Project identification and records
OEM builds can include cable print, labels, barcode or serial number, plus IL/RL, polarity or end-face records when specified in the order.
Production controls tied to the selected assembly
The connector brand in the product title must match the hardware in the BOM. Standard-loss or low-loss wording is used only when the selected connector, fiber and polish map to a written insertion-loss limit.
- Sample or pilot build available before repeat supply
- Polarity and gender checked against the approved map
- Inspection and documentation scope agreed before production
- Label, package and carton information controlled for OEM supply

How to Configure a Custom MPO/MTP Patch Cord
Define the complete channel requirement instead of ordering by jacket color alone.
Connector system → active fibers → fiber type → polish → gender → polarity → loss grade → cable → jacket → color → length → accessory → label / pack
Typical MPO/MTP Patch Cord Specifications
Use these values to start the review. Final limits must be confirmed against the selected connector brand, polish, ferrule grade and project specification.
| Cable OD | 3.0 mm for most 8/12/16/24F jumpers; alternative constructions by project |
|---|---|
| Operating temperature | −20 °C to +70 °C |
| Storage temperature | −40 °C to +85 °C |
| Single-mode IL | Low loss ≤0.35 dB (typ. ≤0.25 dB); standard loss ≤0.75 dB (typ. ≤0.40 dB) |
| Multimode IL | Low loss ≤0.35 dB (typ. ≤0.20 dB); standard loss ≤0.60 dB (typ. ≤0.35 dB) |
| Return loss | Single-mode PC ≥50 dB; APC ≥60 dB |
| Durability | ≤0.2 dB change after 50 matings |
Compliance note: applicable families may be designed around the standards below. Confirm the final configuration and customer specification before stating product compliance.
MPO/MTP Patch Cord Buying Questions
Resolve these points before a sample, BOM approval or production order.
Is this page for MPO-to-LC breakout cables?
No. This category covers compact, single-jacket MPO-to-MPO or MTP-to-MTP jumpers. Choose the breakout and harness category when one end terminates in duplex LC legs.
Why must interface count and active fiber count both be stated?
An MPO-12 or MTP-12 ferrule can carry either 8 or 12 live fibers. Naming both the ferrule interface and the active-fiber count avoids an incorrect map or an unusable assembly.
How do we choose connector gender and polarity?
Gender must match the adapter, cassette, panel or optical-module interface. Polarity depends on every component in the channel, so confirm Method A, B or C against the complete link map. Use the MPO polarity channel design workflow when the full path includes panels, cassettes or conversion assemblies.
Can the same patch cord be used for SR4, DR4 and SR8?
No universal cord covers those applications. SR4 requires the correct 8-active-fiber multimode map; DR4 requires OS2 APC and a matching map; SR8 requires an actual MPO-16 interface and the correct multimode family. Confirm the transceiver MDI first.
Can polarity and pin gender be changed in the field?
Only selected US Conec MTP PRO® assemblies support field polarity and pin-gender changes with the dedicated MTP PRO tool. The tool does not convert standard MTP or generic MPO connectors.
What should we send for an accurate quotation?
Send the connector system and brand, interface and active fibers, fiber type, polish, gender by end, polarity map, loss grade, jacket, length, quantity, label and packaging requirements, destination, and required test records.
MPO-to-MPO Patch Cord Applications
Use these assemblies for short, controlled optical patching where connector interface, active fibers and polarity are already defined. For panel-specific gender, polarity and length planning, see the MPO patch cord panel-patching guide.

In-cabinet and adjacent-rack patching
Compact connections between equipment ports, adapter panels and nearby racks where a single-jacket jumper is appropriate.

Panel and cassette interconnects
Panel-to-panel, cassette-to-cassette and high-density structured cabling with the polarity method documented across the full channel.

Parallel-optics and AI fabric links
Selected SR4, DR4, SR8, PSM4 or InfiniBand links only when the transceiver MDI, polish, fiber family, active-fiber map and channel polarity match.
Need a custom MPO/MTP patch cord for a defined link?
Send the BOM, connector platform, interface and active-fiber count, fiber type, polarity, gender, cable length, jacket requirement and target application. BWNFiber will review the configuration before production.
