MPO Trunk Cable

MPO 8 Fiber OM4 Trunk Cable

The BWNFiber 8-fiber MPO OM4 trunk cable terminates one MPO-8 PC female connector on each end of an Erika Violet jacket. It is the Base-8 trunk for parallel-optics plants — eight live fibers, not twelve, mapped straight into 8-fiber channel plans.

Product Overview

The BWNFiber 8-fiber MPO OM4 trunk cable terminates one MPO-8 PC female connector on each end of an Erika Violet jacket. It is the Base-8 trunk for parallel-optics plants — eight live fibers, not twelve, mapped straight into 8-fiber channel plans.

Fiber count is the whole point of this page: exactly 8 live fibers on an MPO-8 interface. Erika Violet identifies the OM4 fiber grade and does not create a second 12-fiber OM4 page. For 40G/100G SR4-class channels, the matching build is Type B with female ends mating pinned QSFP-class modules — confirm polarity and gender on the site drawing before applying this trunk to transceiver links. Overall length runs 5-100 m.

Key Features

  • One MPO-8/PC female connector on each end
  • 8 live fibers, OM4 50/125 μm multimode — true Base-8 map
  • Erika Violet jacket per OM4 identification practice
  • Type A, Type B or Type C polarity built to the site drawing
  • Suited to 40G/100G SR4-class channels once Type B and female-to-pinned mating are confirmed
  • LSZH, OFNP and OFNR jacket options
  • 100% factory-terminated and optically tested before shipment

Final insertion loss and return loss limits follow the BWNFiber test specification for the selected loss grade. Test method reference: IEC 61300-3-4.

Selection Guidance

  • Polarity is not field-switchable. Choose Type A, Type B or Type C from the site drawing before ordering.
  • For SR4-class transceiver channels: order Type B and confirm the female ends mate pinned module interfaces before applying this trunk.
  • Female (unpinned) ends mate with pinned cassette, panel and module ports; male (pinned) builds are quoted on request.
  • Erika Violet equals OM4 here — for the 12-fiber violet trunk, see the 12F OM4 page instead.
  • 400G/800G SR8 channels need MPO-16 interfaces, which are outside this page.
  • Jacket by space: OFNP for plenum, OFNR for riser shafts, LSZH for enclosed or public areas.

Applications

  • Base-8 parallel-optics trunks in OM4 plants
  • 40G/100G SR4-class channels after polarity and gender confirmation
  • 8-fiber cassette and panel interconnect
  • Migration paths from duplex to parallel-optics channel plans

Order Guide

This SKU is built to the ordered polarity and is not polarity-switchable in the field. Select the polarity from the site drawing, then overall length and jacket.

Why Source from BWNFiber

BWNFiber factory-terminates and inspects every MPO end before shipment, records polarity per order, and can attach IL/RL test reports for project handover. Catalog jackets cover LSZH, OFNP and OFNR; PVC, TPU and PE are quoted on project orders, together with OEM printing and labeling. The 8-fiber map is written into the product name and test records, keeping Base-8 stock separate from 12-fiber OM4 at receiving. Send the interface, fiber type, polarity, jacket and overall length, and BWNFiber returns a build sheet before production.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why 8 fibers and not 12?

This is the Base-8 build: exactly eight live fibers on an MPO-8 interface, mapped to 8-fiber channel plans. Older listings that said 12 fibers on this SKU were incorrect.

Can I use this for 40G/100G SR4 links?

Yes, once the build matches the channel: Type B polarity and female ends mating pinned QSFP-class module interfaces. Confirm both on the site drawing before applying it to transceiver links.

Is Erika Violet a different fiber from violet OM4?

No. Erika Violet identifies the same OM4 jacket color family. The difference on this page is the 8-fiber count, not the color.

Is this the same as the 12F OM4 trunk?

No. The 12F OM4 trunk carries twelve live fibers on MPO-12 connectors; this page carries eight on MPO-8.

Can I use it for 400G/800G SR8?

No. SR8-class channels use MPO-16 interfaces, which are outside this 8-fiber page.
