MPO 8F OS2 G657A2 to LC Uniboot Breakout Cable

Specify an MPO 8F OS2 G657A2 to LC uniboot breakout cable. Review four duplex destinations, routing limits and the drawing before requesting a quote.

MPO Breakout & Harness Cable

Specify eight single-mode fiber paths from an MPO/APC female end to four LC/UPC uniboot duplex ends. This configuration is intended for projects that explicitly call for G.657.A2 fiber and compact paired LC terminations. Check the finished cable routing limits, connector drawing and branch schedule before requesting a quotation.

Product Overview

The MPO 8F OS2 G657A2 to LC uniboot breakout cable is a passive fiber assembly for routing an eight-fiber connection into four duplex destinations. The supplied configuration lists a yellow jacket, an unpinned MPO/APC end and four LC/UPC uniboot pairs. Each pair contains two optical paths; four uniboot housings do not mean four fibers.

Configuration status: The product identity and options below come from the supplied product brief. The production BOM, connector drawing and acceptance specification require approval: confirmation with BWNFiber. Use this page to prepare a configuration request; the approved quotation and drawing define the assembly supplied.

G.657.A2 fiber and finished cable routing

ITU-T G.657 describes bending-loss-insensitive single-mode fiber and cable characteristics. Its uncabled-fiber bend tests do not establish the installation bend radius of this finished harness. The trunk, furcation body, branch cords and connector boots each need suitable clearance. Request the assembly’s static and installation limits before laying out a tight routing path.

The G.657.A2 designation also does not establish link speed, connector loss or transmission distance. Those depend on the complete optical channel and the selected equipment. For the broader fiber comparison, use the G.657.A1 and G.657.A2 guide.

Selection Guidance

Confirm the MPO and LC interfaces separately

“MPO-8” in the source identifies the eight-fiber configuration, but does not supply a ferrule position drawing. Obtain that drawing before assuming where the eight active fibers sit. Verify the pinned/unpinned mating pair, polish and key orientation at the MPO connection. The LC end must mate to the appropriate UPC interface. APC at one end of a cable and UPC at the other is distinct from mating unlike polish types at a single connection.

Pair 2Panel and port ___Two MPO positions → two LC positions ___
Pair 3Panel and port ___Two MPO positions → two LC positions ___
Pair 4Panel and port ___Two MPO positions → two LC positions ___

This is a blank ordering worksheet, not a pinout. The network designer supplies the destination schedule; the manufacturer confirms the assembly map. A Type A, B or C label alone is insufficient to approve the complete channel. See MPO polarity and channel design for channel-level planning.

OS2 distribution to four duplex panel destinationsKeeps the four pairs identified at the LC endApproved pinout, LC housing access and port spacing
Dense rack routing with an explicit A2 fiber requirementAddresses the requested fiber class within the assembly BOMFinished cable radius, furcation location and strain relief

A passive harness does not convert data rate or optical wavelength. PSM4/DR4 names in the source are not compatibility approvals. Send both endpoint module part numbers and the switch configuration for an application-specific check.

Order Guide

  1. State that the request is for item 35: eight fibers, OS2 G.657.A2, MPO/APC female to four LC/UPC uniboot duplex ends.
  2. Attach the required MPO position map and four-pair destination schedule.
  3. Specify overall length and the measurement reference at each connector. Define all four branch lengths and whether they are equal or staggered.
  4. Include panel spacing, latch-access constraints and routing dimensions. Identify where the furcation body will sit.
  5. State the project jacket requirement and documentation needed in the destination market.
  6. Agree optical acceptance limits, report format, quantity and requested delivery date before placing the order.

Length and jacket requests

The source lists 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50 m, combined with three polarity labels and three jacket labels. These are 117 requested combinations, not 117 verified stock items. Availability, custom lengths, branch options and tolerances are confirmation with BWNFiber. The accompanying order schedule preserves every combination without repeating the full product name in each row.

Use metric dimensions on the approved drawing. For reference, 1 m ≈ 3.28 ft, 1.5 m ≈ 4.92 ft and 2 m ≈ 6.56 ft. Feet are approximate conversions, not alternative manufacturing dimensions.

LSZH describes smoke/halogen characteristics; it is not by itself evidence of a plenum or riser classification. Request documentation for the exact proposed jacket construction and installation requirement. Do not approve a substitution from the color or jacket label alone.

Why Source from BWNFiber

Use a documented configuration request to align the purchasing team, installer and assembly supplier. Ask BWNFiber to confirm the fiber BOM, connector drawings, branch map, dimensional tolerances and evidence supplied with the order. This keeps acceptance tied to the requested assembly rather than to a generic catalog description.

FAQ

MPO 8F OS2 G657A2 to LC Uniboot Breakout Cable FAQ

Does OS2 alone establish G.657.A2 fiber?

No. Retain the exact fiber designation in the BOM and request the fiber datasheet. Do not accept “OS2” alone as confirmation of the A2 requirement.

Can this harness be routed at a 7.5 mm radius?

That finished-assembly limit has not been verified. An uncabled-fiber test radius cannot approve the trunk, branch cords or connector boots. Request the cable routing limits.

Do four uniboot ends provide eight fiber paths?

The supplied design specifies four duplex uniboot ends, with two paths per pair. Confirm the connector drawing and all eight continuity paths before acceptance.

Is item 35 interchangeable with the standard OS2 uniboot version?

Only after comparing the actual fiber BOM, connector construction and mechanical limits. A different name alone neither proves a physical difference nor approves a substitution.

Is the LC polarity field-switchable?

The supplied brief does not approve field polarity switching. Request the connector instructions before attempting any change; uniboot construction alone does not establish that feature.

Which polarity should be ordered?

Order the map approved for the complete channel. Supply both endpoint definitions and the four-pair schedule; do not select a polarity label solely from a module speed name.

Is the branch length automatically 30 cm?

No default is approved in this draft. Confirm each branch length, reference points, tolerance and furcation position on the order drawing.

Does G.657.A2 guarantee lower connector loss?

No. The fiber bend classification does not provide the terminated assembly’s insertion or return loss limits. Request those limits and the associated test conditions separately.

Are OFNP and OFNR options certified?

The source lists the labels but supplies no configuration-specific certification evidence. Documentation and availability are confirmation with BWNFiber.

Does this cable guarantee a PSM4 or DR4 connection?

No. Compatibility requires the exact interfaces, lane mapping, optical parameters and supported equipment breakout mode to agree. The passive cable supplies paths rather than protocol conversion.

What should a sample evaluation check?

Check housing fit and latch access, all eight paths, the four duplex labels, agreed optical results and the routing dimensions. Use the approved drawing revision as the acceptance reference.

What information speeds up a comparable quotation?

Send the A2 fiber requirement, MPO drawing, LC housing requirement, four-pair schedule, dimensions, jacket documentation, test criteria, quantity and destination. Ask suppliers to identify any deviation explicitly.
