MPO Breakout & Harness Cable

MPO 12 Fiber OM5 to LC Duplex Breakout Cable

Specify an MPO 12 fiber OM5 to LC duplex breakout cable with six duplex legs. Check the fiber map, fanout dimensions and jacket before requesting a quote.

MPO Breakout & Harness Cable

An MPO 12 fiber OM5 to LC duplex breakout cable connects one MPO-12 interface to six LC duplex legs. The supplied configuration uses a PC female MPO connector, LC/UPC duplex connectors and lime-green OM5 multimode fiber. Specify the complete fiber map and branch layout before ordering.

Product Overview

Use this assembly where an approved cabling design distributes twelve OM5 fiber paths from an MPO connection to six duplex termination points. Each duplex leg carries two fibers; the six connectors do not establish six supported network links without compatible equipment and correct transmit-to-receive routing.

The configuration is intended for full twelve-fiber distribution. It is not automatically interchangeable with a four-leg SR4 harness. A connector that fits mechanically can still have the wrong populated positions, pairing or polarity. Submit both endpoint part numbers and the intervening cassette or trunk map for review.

Compare other configurations on the MPO breakout and harness selection page. This page covers the supplied OM5 six-duplex assembly; it does not establish availability of every product in the family.

Key Features

  • One MPO-12/PC female interface to six LC/UPC duplex legs, as described in the source.
  • Twelve OM5 50/125 μm multimode fibers with a lime-green jacket.
  • A full fiber-position map to be approved alongside LC leg labels and destinations.
  • Factory-selected polarity; the source does not specify field-switchable polarity.
  • Metric length and fanout dimensions recorded separately for quotation.
  • One configuration schedule for polarity, jacket and length choices, avoiding repetitive product-name rows.

Selection Guidance

Confirm twelve paths and six destinations

Prepare a schedule for legs L1–L6. For each leg, record both MPO fiber positions, both LC fiber identifiers, the destination port and the intended transmit/receive direction. Do not assume adjacent MPO positions form each duplex pair. Request an end-view drawing showing viewing direction, key orientation and pinning.

Separate distribution from transceiver breakout

Required connectionSelection decision
Twelve-fiber OM5 distribution to six duplex destinationsReview this configuration against the complete path map
Four-lane SR4 breakoutRequest the equipment-specific four-leg map; do not order this six-leg assembly as an automatic substitute
Duplex SWDM optical linkConfirm the actual optics, supported fiber and channel budget; jacket color does not establish compatibility
OS2 single-mode connectionSelect a separately specified single-mode assembly

Cisco’s QSFP documentation gives module-specific interface, reach and loss-budget requirements. It is a reminder to qualify the optics and channel together, not evidence that this BWNFiber assembly is approved for a Cisco module.

Define branch geometry before overall length

Measure from the agreed MPO reference point to each LC connector reference point. Identify the fanout transition separately. State whether the legs are equal or staggered, how far each destination is from the transition and where service slack is required. Avoid defining every leg only by a single overall length when the ports are staggered.

The source lists 30 cm as the default fanout, but a default is not an installation drawing. The routing must respect the approved cable bend radius and connector strain relief. Dimensions, tolerances and any staggered construction are confirmation with BWNFiber.

Agree polarity and optical acceptance

Select the factory polarity only after checking the complete channel. Type A/B/C labels are insufficient without the actual fiber map and mating interfaces. Use the channel polarity design guide for the wider design process.

Documents to request before order release

Request the approved drawing, fiber and jacket identification, and the proposed inspection and test record. Specify per-fiber continuity, end-face inspection scope, maximum insertion loss and minimum return loss where applicable, test wavelength and reference method. IEC 61300-3-4 is listed as a method reference in the source; exact method applicability and performed tests are confirmation with BWNFiber. A typical connector loss is not an assembly acceptance limit, and factory results do not replace the installed channel budget.

Applications

Selection scenarioRequired condition
OM5 MPO distribution to an LC patch areaSix duplex destinations and all twelve paths match the approved map
Cassette-related patchingActual MPO-side connector, cassette internal map and LC destination assignment are known
Existing WBMMF cabling plantFiber grade, optics and channel requirements are verified from the system documents
Repeat project supplyThe same approved drawing revision and acceptance schedule are referenced

These are design scenarios, not customer case studies. For enclosure-based distribution, review the breakout versus cassette comparison.

The source contains 117 option rows: three polarity requests × three jacket requests × thirteen lengths. They are retained in the accompanying order-options CSV, not represented as stock or as 117 separately approved products. Metric values govern; 1 m is approximately 3.28 ft and 1.5 m is approximately 4.92 ft.

Custom lengths, 0.9 mm legs, staggered fanout, pulling eyes, OEM print, labels and packaging are source-listed requests. Feasibility, MOQ, lead time and the final part-number format are confirmation with BWNFiber. Do not treat the source’s suggested order-code pattern as an issued SKU.

Why Source from BWNFiber

Send BWNFiber one configuration record covering the six destinations, connector identity, lengths and acceptance requirements. Ask for the proposed build and any exceptions to be identified in the quotation. This creates a reference that procurement, installation and receiving teams can use for the same assembly.

The source mentions factory termination, inspection and IL/RL records. Actual test coverage, record availability, traceability and production capability for this item are confirmation with BWNFiber. Request evidence for the quoted build before approving a sample or repeat order.

Need a Configuration Review or Sample?

Request a quote for the six-duplex OM5 configuration with the endpoint models, completed leg map, overall length, fanout dimensions, jacket and quantity. Ask BWNFiber to identify open specifications and available documents before order approval.

FAQ

MPO 12 Fiber OM5 to LC Duplex Breakout Cable FAQ

Why does this assembly have six LC duplex legs?

The supplied build terminates twelve fibers as six pairs. The required mapping between MPO positions and each pair still needs an approved drawing.

Is this a four-leg SR4 harness?

No. It is described as a full twelve-fiber, six-duplex distribution assembly. Any proposed SR4 use requires review of the exact optics and map; it is not an automatic substitute.

Does OM5 mean the link supports SWDM?

No. Confirm the transceiver specification and complete channel. The fiber designation and lime-green jacket alone do not establish a supported application or reach.

Can the polarity be changed in the field?

Field switching is not offered in the source. Approve the factory map before ordering rather than assuming the connector or LC clips provide a supported conversion procedure.

Does a female MPO connector fit any MPO port?

Check the mating connector’s pinning, polish and key orientation. The port or adapter name alone does not provide a complete interface specification.

Are the six legs paired in consecutive MPO positions?

Do not assume that. Complete the position-to-leg schedule and approve the drawing with its viewing direction shown.

What does 30 cm fanout mean?

It is the source-listed default. Agree the transition and connector reference points, tolerance and whether all six legs share that length.

Is a 1 m cable a 3 ft cable?

No. One meter is approximately 3.28 feet. Use the metric order value and the agreed measurement points.

Are LSZH, OFNP and OFNR interchangeable?

Do not substitute them by name. State the installation requirements and ask for the exact jacket identification and supporting evidence. Availability is confirmation with BWNFiber.

Which report will accompany the shipment?

The supplied file does not establish a verified reporting entitlement. Agree continuity, polarity, inspection and optical records in the quotation; availability is confirmation with BWNFiber.
