Overview

The BWN-PLC-RM is a 19-inch, 1U rack-mounted PLC (planar lightwave circuit) splitter panel: a planar splitter module inside a standard 1U chassis, with SC/APC adapter ports on the front. It brings the split point into the rack — at the CO, the OLT side, a headend or an ODF frame — instead of a field enclosure, so patching, testing and reconfiguration happen at the rack.

The split ratio is configured per order across the 1×N and 2×N range, up to 17 front ports on this 1U panel — enough for a full 1×16 split plus its input. The chassis is 482.6mm wide, 44.45mm (1U) high, 350mm deep and 1.8kg, and drops into any standard 19-inch equipment rack or ODF frame. For dedicated fixed-ratio panels, see the 1×16, 1×32 and 1×64 siblings linked below. For family context and the rack-format selection framework, see the rack-mounted PLC splitter category.

Key Features

  • Standard 19″ 1U chassis — 482.6mm wide, 44.45mm high, 350mm deep, 1.8kg — drops into any standard equipment rack or ODF frame position.
  • SC/APC front ports, up to 17 — angled end-faces keep return loss at 55dB class — the standard choice for PON plants; 17 ports fit a full 1×16 split plus input.
  • Split ratio configured per order — 1×N and 2×N configurations built to the project; per-port loss follows the series reference values.
  • Centralized split point — puts splitting at the CO/OLT or headend rack, where patching, testing and reconfiguration are easiest.
  • Uniform planar loss — even loss across all outputs, flat across the 1260-1650nm band.
  • -40~+85°C operating and storage range — rated for unconditioned rack rooms and cabinets.

Connectors, Fiber Types & Compatibility

This unit ships with SC/APC front adapters (green housings, 8° angled end-face). Mate them only with APC-polished jumpers; mixing APC ports with UPC jumpers damages both ferrules and collapses return loss at that joint. Family options: SC, LC or ST interfaces, APC or UPC polish; G657A bend-insensitive singlemode or customer-specified fiber.

The panel mounts into any standard 19-inch equipment rack or ODF frame — pair it with our fiber patch panels and ODF frames in the same rack row. Downstream, it feeds field-side cassette PLC splitters and distribution boxes in two-stage PON architectures.

Applications

  • CO / OLT-side centralized splitting — one rack position hosts the PON split; patch cords to the OLT ports and the ODF in the same row.
  • Headends and hub sites — centralized split with front-panel access for testing and reconfiguration.
  • ODF frame integration — mounts into the distribution frame row where feeder and drop fibers already terminate.
  • Data center meet-me rooms — passive optical distribution between cages without powered equipment.

For boxes, closures and drop hardware downstream of this panel, see our FTTx supporting products.

How to Choose: Rack Panel Configuration Guide

Architecture first. Centralized splitting puts one higher-ratio splitter at the CO or hub — simplest to test and manage, and this rack panel is built for it. Cascaded splitting uses two lower-ratio stages (for example 1×4 at the CO, then 1×8 in field boxes) to shorten drop cable runs. Both are valid PON designs; the choice follows your fiber routing, duct space and maintenance model.

Which split ratio? Match the subscriber count per feeder — 1×16 and 1×32 are the common PON branches; 2×N when you need dual feeders or two services on one split point. Per-ratio loss values are in the splitter loss chart (1×2 to 1×64).

Fixed-ratio panels? If you need a dedicated fixed-ratio unit, see the 1×16, 1×32 and 1×64 rack-mount siblings below.

LGX ecosystem? If the site standardizes on LGX plug-in modules, see the rack-mounted LGX splitter panel sibling instead.

Testing & Quality Control

Optical performance is verified against the parameters in the specification table above — insertion loss, uniformity, return loss, PDL, directivity and wavelength dependent loss. Compliance with Telcordia GR-1209-CORE and GR-1221-CORE is stated per BWNFiber product documentation.

Packaging & Ordering Information

Standard build: 19″ 1U panel, SC/APC front ports, split ratio configured per order, G657A fiber; connector mix and port plan confirmed on the panel drawing before production. Panels ship in protective cartons with connector dust caps fitted.

FAQ

BWN-PLC-RM 19″ 1U Rack Mounted PLC Splitter SC/APC FAQ

What is a rack mount PLC splitter?

A PLC (planar lightwave circuit) splitter built into a standard 19-inch rack-mount chassis, typically 1U high, with connectorized adapter ports on the front. It places the optical split point inside a rack — at a CO, OLT side, headend or ODF frame — instead of a field enclosure, so patching, testing and reconfiguration happen at the rack.

What does 1U mean for a splitter panel?

1U is the standard rack unit height of 44.45mm (1.75 in). This 1U panel is 350mm deep and 1.8kg, and carries up to 17 SC/APC ports — enough for a full 1×16 split plus its input. Lower-ratio builds use fewer ports; confirm the port plan on the panel drawing when ordering.

Centralized vs cascaded splitting — which architecture?

Centralized splitting puts one higher-ratio splitter (for example 1×32) at the CO or hub — simplest to test and manage, and this rack panel is built for it. Cascaded splitting uses two lower-ratio stages (for example 1×4 at the CO, then 1×8 in field boxes) to shorten drop cable runs. Both are valid PON designs; the choice follows your fiber routing, duct space and maintenance model.

What insertion loss should I budget?

Follow the ratio: 1×16 is 13.5/13.7dB class, 1×32 is 16.5/16.9dB class (P/S grade, series reference). Add connector and splice losses, then check the total against your PON class power budget. Exact per-port figures come with the order datasheet.

Why SC/APC on a rack panel?

PON plants are reflectance-sensitive. APC’s 8° angled end-face keeps return loss high (55dB class), which protects OLT lasers and the video overlay band. SC/UPC and LC options are available for non-PON plants.

Rack panel, LGX cassette or ABS box — which format?

Rack panel (this page) for CO and hub racks. LGX plug-in cassette when the site standardizes on LGX chassis — see the rack-mounted LGX panel sibling. ABS insertion module or steel tube for field distribution boxes and closures.

Can I order a ratio not listed here?

The series covers standard 1×N and 2×N ratios up to 17 ports on this 1U panel. Send your required ratio and port count — we confirm feasibility and provide the panel drawing and datasheet before production.

Do you support OEM branding and project quantities?

Yes — send your rack standard, split ratio, connector polish and quantities for a configuration review, documentation and pricing.
