Cassette PLC Splitter

BWN-PLC-CT-2.0 2×4 SC/APC Cassette-Type PLC Splitter

The BWN-PLC-CT-2.0 is a 2×4 PLC splitter cassette with SC/APC connectors: two inputs, four outputs, 7.6dB maximum insertion loss across 1260–1650nm. The plug-in cassette drops into ODF and fiber distribution box slots, giving FTTH distribution points and small MDUs a dual-input PON split without splicing.

Overview

The BWN-PLC-CT-2.0 is a 2×4 cassette-type PLC (planar lightwave circuit) splitter with SC/APC connectors. It accepts two input fibers and distributes the optical signal evenly across four output ports over the full 1260–1650nm wavelength range, with 7.6dB maximum insertion loss. It is built for FTTH and PON distribution points that need to serve four subscribers from one or two feeder fibers without active electronics.

Specify this configuration for dual-input redundancy or two PON services on one distribution point, in enclosures with cassette slots rather than splice-only space. The module measures 100×80×10mm, terminates in SC/APC adapters, and ships with 2.0mm pigtails at 1m standard length. Single-feeder jobs fit a 1×4 cassette; SC/UPC plants and LGX chassis have sibling models compared below. For the full family, see the PLC splitter category and the cassette PLC splitter category.

Key Features

  • 2×4 split in one device — two inputs × four outputs; a main feeder plus a protection or second-service feeder reach the same four drops without a second splitter.
  • 7.6dB maximum insertion loss — only 0.5dB above a single-input 1×4 (7.1dB, P grade), so dual input costs almost no power budget.
  • 55dB return loss with APC polish — the 8° angled endface keeps reflectance away from PON OLT lasers and 1550nm RF video overlay.
  • ≤1.0dB loss uniformity — the four outputs stay within 1dB of each other, so ONU receive levels stay even.
  • -40~+85°C operating range, ≤0.4dB temperature stability — rated for outdoor cabinets and unconditioned boxes.
  • 100×80×10mm cassette housing — plugs into standard ODF and distribution box cassette slots; internal PLC device 50×4×4mm.
  • 1260–1650nm operating window — transparent to 1310/1490/1550nm PON wavelengths and CATV overlay.

Connectors, Fiber Types & Compatibility

This build terminates in SC/APC connectors (green housing, 8° angled polish); SC, LC or ST in APC or UPC can be ordered. Fiber is G657A bend-insensitive or customer specified. The 2.0mm pigtail balances mechanical protection against routing space in distribution boxes; 0.9mm and 3.0mm are available.

The cassette plugs into the cassette slot of an ODF frame or fiber distribution box and presents its ports on an SC adapter plate — no splicing to install or replace. For an existing chassis, confirm the slot accepts a 100×80×10mm module. Mate APC ports only with APC cords; mating APC to UPC/PC damages the endface and adds loss.

Applications

  • FTTH distribution points for small MDUs — one cassette serves four units; the second input is a protection feeder or a second service.
  • PON segments with dual-homed feeders — main and backup OLT feeders land on the same splitter, so a feeder cut does not take down the segment.
  • PON plus CATV/RF video overlay — the 1260–1650nm window passes 1310/1490nm data and 1550nm video; APC polish keeps reflectance low.
  • Rural and short-reach fiber distribution boxes — four drops per cassette; a failed unit is swapped from the slot without re-splicing.
  • Two-service delivery at business parks — separate service feeds share one compact module instead of two single-input splitters.

How to Choose: Split Ratio, Package and Polish

1×4 or 2×4? One feeder at the distribution point → 1×4 cassette. Choose 2×4 when you need a second input for redundancy or a second service — the penalty is only 0.5dB (7.6dB vs 7.1dB P grade).

Cassette, blockless or LGX? Cassettes plug into ODF/FDB slots and present adapters up front — fastest to install and replace. Blockless steel-tube splitters are spliced inside closures. LGX modules fit standard rack-mount LGX chassis. Match the package to the enclosure.

APC or UPC? PON, FTTH and CATV plants standardize on APC for its higher return loss (≥55dB here). If your plant is UPC throughout, use the SC/UPC sibling below rather than mixing polishes on one link.

Budget check. In a Class B+ GPON budget of about 28dB, a 2×4 split takes ≤7.6dB, wavelength/temperature variation adds ≤0.8dB, and connector pairs take 2–3dB — leaving roughly 17dB for fiber and splices, enough for several kilometers. Verify your OLT/ONU classes against the splitter loss chart before finalizing.

FAQ

BWN-PLC-CT-2.0 2×4 SC/APC Cassette-Type PLC Splitter FAQ

What is a 2×4 PLC splitter used for?

A 2×4 PLC splitter takes two input fibers and splits the signal evenly to four outputs. It serves FTTH distribution points and small MDUs where a second input gives feeder redundancy or a second PON service — without two separate 1×4 splitters. Dual input costs only 0.5dB more than a 1×4 (7.6dB vs 7.1dB).

What is the insertion loss of a 2×4 PLC splitter?

Maximum insertion loss is ≤7.6dB across 1260–1650nm, with ≤1.0dB port-to-port uniformity, per the BWNFiber 2×N specification table. Add connector pair losses and fiber attenuation on top when building a link budget; the splitter loss chart lists every ratio from 1×2 to 1×64.

Should I choose a cassette, blockless or LGX 2×4 splitter?

Match the package to the enclosure. Cassettes plug into ODF and distribution box slots with front adapters — no splicing to install or replace. Blockless steel-tube splitters splice into closures. LGX modules fit rack-mount LGX chassis. The optical core is the same; only the mechanics differ.

SC/APC or SC/UPC for a PON splitter?

PON, FTTH and CATV plants normally specify APC: the 8° angled endface delivers ≥55dB return loss here and keeps reflectance away from OLT lasers and 1550nm video paths. Choose UPC only where the existing plant is UPC throughout — then use the SC/UPC 2×4 insertion-module sibling instead of mixing polishes.

Can I order this cassette with LC connectors or longer pigtails?

Yes. The cassette platform supports SC, LC and ST connectors in APC or UPC polish, 0.9mm, 2.0mm or 3.0mm pigtail diameters, and pigtail lengths beyond the standard 1m. State connector, polish, diameter and length in the inquiry.

How do I verify a 2×4 splitter during acceptance testing?

Test all eight paths (2 inputs × 4 outputs) with an OLTS at 1310, 1490 and 1550nm. Each path should read ≤7.6dB plus your connector allowance, and the four outputs from one input should sit within the ≤1.0dB uniformity window. A single port reading well above the limit usually means a contaminated connector — clean and retest before rejecting the unit.

Does this cassette work in outdoor cabinets?

The splitter is rated for -40~+85°C operating and storage, with ≤0.4dB temperature stability across that range, so it suits unconditioned outdoor cabinets. The cassette is not a sealed closure — install it inside an ODF, distribution box or cabinet that provides the enclosure.
