Fiber Access Terminal

MBN-FOSC-A14-A 16 Ports IP68 Rated Outdoor Fiber Termination Box

The MBN-FOSC-A14-A is a 16-port fiber termination box rated IP68 for outdoor FTTH and FTTA distribution points. Sixteen pre-connectorized SC/APC ports accept hardened drop cables with Mini SC (OptiTap-compatible) connectors, so subscriber drops connect without field splicing. The splice section holds up to 144 fibers on six 24-core trays, and one 1×16 or two 1×8 PLC splitters are installed as standard before shipment. Eight cable entries accept Φ5.0–16.0 mm feeder and branch cables, and the strengthened polypropylene enclosure (430 × 200 × 138 mm) mounts on poles, aerial strands, or walls.

Key Features

  • Sixteen pre-connectorized SC/APC ports: Hardened drops plug in without field splicing, reducing installation time at each subscriber connection.
  • IP68 sealed enclosure: Dust-tight and verified at 1 m water immersion for 48 hours in the BWNFiber laboratory.
  • 144F splice capacity: Six 24-core trays provide separate splicing and distribution areas for organized fiber management.
  • Splitter installed as standard: Select one 1×16 or two 1×8 PLC splitters to match the PON split plan.
  • Strengthened PP housing: Provides flexibility, toughness and aging resistance for long-term outdoor exposure, with UL-94 HB flammability classification.
  • Eight cable entries: Accepts Φ5.0–16.0 mm feeder, branch and drop cables.
  • Verified against relevant standards: Designed and tested with reference to IEC 62134-1, IEC 61300-2 and IEC 60068-2.

Where the MBN-FOSC-A14-A Fits

In FTTH access networks, this enclosure serves as the network access point between the distribution cable and as many as 16 subscriber drop cables. The feeder is spliced on the 144F trays, divided by the integrated PLC splitter, and fanned out through the pre-connectorized hardened interfaces.

For FTTA and rural broadband builds, IP68 sealing supports demanding handhole, pole and aerial locations where moisture and dust exclude lower-rated enclosures. Projects needing only eight pre-connectorized drops can use the smaller MBN-FOSC-A14.

Installation and Sealing

  • Pole, aerial or wall mounting: Use the rear bracket for the selected mounting method, keep cable entries facing downward and form drip loops on every cable.
  • Closing the enclosure: Seat the gasket evenly in its groove and tighten the latches uniformly. IP68 performance depends on full compression of every entry and the cover seal.
  • Unused entries: Fit the correct sealing plugs; an open cable entry compromises immersion protection.
  • Drop connections: Insert the Mini SC hardened connector and tighten the coupling ring until fully seated. Keep SC/APC end faces clean, protected and capped when not connected.

Testing and Standards

The MBN-FOSC-A14-A is designed, produced and tested with reference to IEC 62134-1 for fiber optic enclosures, IEC 61300-2 for basic test and measurement procedures, and IEC 60068-2 for environmental testing. Its IP68 sealing was verified in the BWNFiber laboratory at 1 m immersion for 48 hours. The videos below show the immersion test and the production and assembly process; request the applicable test documentation with your inquiry.

FAQ

FAQ: MBN-FOSC-A14-A

What is the MBN-FOSC-A14-A used for?

It is a 16-port outdoor fiber termination box for FTTH and FTTA distribution points. The feeder cable is spliced inside, divided by a PLC splitter and distributed to as many as 16 pre-connectorized subscriber drops.

Is the PLC splitter included?

Yes. Specify whether the PON plan requires one 1×16 or two 1×8 PLC splitters, and the selected configuration is installed before shipment. See the 1×8 PLC splitter guide for additional planning information.

What does the IP68 rating cover?

The enclosure is dust-tight and protected against continuous immersion. This model was tested at 1 m underwater for 48 hours in the BWNFiber laboratory. The test video is available on this page, and applicable test documentation can be requested.

Which drop cables work with the 16 ports?

Use pre-terminated drop cables with Mini SC hardened connectors that are OptiTap-compatible. Send the cable and connector details for compatibility confirmation before ordering.

What is the splice capacity?

The enclosure supports 144 fibers across six 24-core trays, with separate areas for splicing and distribution.

What cable diameters does it accept?

Eight cable entries accept Φ5.0–16.0 mm feeder, branch and drop cables.

How is it different from the MBN-FOSC-A14?

The A14-A supports 16 pre-connectorized drops and 144F splice capacity in an IP68 enclosure. The A14 is an 8-port model for smaller distribution points.

Which standards does it meet?

It is designed and tested with reference to IEC 62134-1, IEC 61300-2 and IEC 60068-2, with a UL-94 HB flammability classification for the housing material.

Can it be installed in flood-prone pits or handholes?

The enclosure was tested at 1 m immersion for 48 hours and is intended for demanding wet environments when every cable entry and the cover seal are correctly installed. For pole or wall applications where immersion protection is unnecessary, the IP65-rated MBN-FOSC-A11 may be a more economical option.

Can I request a sample, datasheet or IP68 test report before a bulk order?

Yes. Submit the splitter plan, drop cable type, mounting method and quantity. The sales team can provide configuration confirmation, available documentation, sample information and pricing.
