LC Fiber Connector

Pre-polished ferrule LC Fiber Connectors for single-mode applications, available in 0.9/2.0/3.0mm cable diameter options, enabling rapid field installation without epoxy or polishing for superior cost efficiency.

  • Tool-Free Installation – No epoxy curing or end-face polishing required, reducing deployment time by 80%.
  • Minimal Tool Dependency – Compatible with standard fiber strippers and cleavers for streamlined assembly.
  • Premium Optical Performance – ≤0.3dB insertion loss and ≥55dB return loss outperforms industry benchmarks.
  • 300+ Mating Cycles – Patented structure ensures reliable repeated connections.
  • Universal Compatibility – Ideal for FTTH, data centers, enterprise networks, and telecom infrastructure.

What Is an LC Fiber Connector?

The LC connector (Lucent Connector) is a small-form-factor fiber optic connector built around a 1.25 mm ceramic ferrule — half the size of the SC connector’s 2.5 mm ferrule. That compact footprint lets patch panels and transceivers pack twice as many ports into the same space, which is why LC became the default interface for SFP/SFP+ transceivers, data center cabling, and modern FTTH hardware.

LC Connector Types and Options

  • Simplex vs duplex: simplex for single-fiber links, duplex (clipped pairs) for transmit/receive links such as transceiver connections. Uniboot duplex designs — see our fiber cable assemblies for uniboot LC cords in UPC and APC — route both fibers in one jacket to save space.
  • UPC vs APC polish: UPC (blue) is standard for data and telecom; APC (green, 8° angled end-face) is used in PON/FTTH and RF video where return loss matters.
  • Single mode vs multimode: the same LC body fits OS2 single mode and OM3/OM4/OM5 multimode fiber — the boot color identifies the grade.
  • Termination style: field-polish, pigtail fusion splicing, or pre-polished fast connectors for tool-light installation.

Installation Methods: Fusion Splicing vs 90-Second Fast Connectors

There are three ways to put an LC connector on a fiber. Factory pre-terminated patch cords give the best, factory-tested performance for known lengths. Fusion splicing a factory pigtail delivers the lowest insertion loss in the field but needs a fusion splicer and a trained technician. Pre-polished fast connectors contain a factory-polished fiber stub inside the body: strip, cleave, insert, and lock — a trained installer finishes one connector in about 90 seconds with no splicer, no epoxy, and no polishing. For FTTH drop installations, MDU risers, and emergency repairs, fast connectors typically cut termination labor dramatically compared with on-site splicing.

BWNFiber’s fast connector range covers SC and LC bodies in UPC and APC, and our LC patch cords are available in every common mode, length, and polish.

Where LC Connectors Are Used

  • Transceivers: SFP, SFP+, SFP28, and QSFP breakout interfaces are almost universally LC — see what an SFP port is.
  • Data centers: high-density data center patch panels and MPO-to-LC breakout cassettes.
  • FTTH: ONT/ONU ports, wall outlets, and drop-cable termination with SC as the common alternative at the subscriber side. One level up, fiber optic splitters divide the feed at the distribution point, and Quick ODN pre-connected boxes land drops on hardened ports without field splicing.
  • Telecom rooms: cross-connect panels and equipment patching.

FAQ

What does LC stand for in fiber optics?

LC stands for Lucent Connector. It was developed by Lucent Technologies as a smaller alternative to SC and FC connectors for high-density applications.

Is the LC connector single mode or multimode?

Both. The LC is a mechanical interface — the same body terminates single mode (OS2) and multimode (OM3/OM4/OM5) fiber. Boot color indicates the fiber grade and polish.

Can I get LC connectors in APC polish?

Yes. LC/APC is standard for PON and FTTH deployments where low reflectance is required. Specify UPC or APC when ordering patch cords, pigtails, or fast connectors.

LC or SC — which should I choose?

Choose LC for high-density panels, transceivers, and data centers. Choose SC for wall outlets, ONTs, and situations where a larger, easier-to-grip body helps installers. Many projects use both: SC at the subscriber end, LC in the rack.
